The first release from electronic musician Hjalti, Winter Asks What We Did in the Summer, is an almost forgotten past remembered from a static present. Hjalti's influences, from IDM and Glitch to Industrial and Black Metal, are all blended into a surprisingly cohesive statement. Starting minimally, and slowly descending into increasingly dark and bleak textures, the album reminds the listener that for every warm and content summer is a winter filled with cold and regret.
